Digital Signage is the presentation of multimedia information in a
variety of different formats on a single screen to produce
eye-catching dynamic displays.
Typical applications for digital signage include:
Advertising in retail environments or public areas
Information displays in public areas
Welcome screens in business receptions
Emergency messaging systems
Typically a mixture of computer graphics, text, animations and moving
video are combined by a digital signage player to produce
the on-screen display.
The digital signage players are networked and receive their
content, and the instructions on when and how to display that
content, across the network. The screen is divided into a
number of zones that can display different types of content.
A scheduling system controls what content is displayed in
the zones at any particular time.
Digital Signage can typically display the following content formats:
TV and Video - both IPTV streams and video files
Animations - Flash and GIFs
Still images - JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PNG
Text - Multiple Fonts, Scrolling, Rolling,
Content may come from a mixture of local file storage, IPTV VoD servers and the Internet.
