A couple more useful points about VOD

1. In IPTV systems VOD servers are often used to directly record IPTV channel streams for later use. But note that it is also possible to directly transfer media files onto a VOD server using ftp, to store them for replay later.

2. VOD servers can simultaneously: playout multicast channels, such as corporate TV or showreel channels; and provide multiple unicast streams for individual users to control their viewing.
